Simon Coval, Manager of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in Vancouver, is a commercial litigator with a broad practice focused on business disputes involving real estate, contracts, economic torts, companies and partnerships, civil fraud and white-collar crime, and injunctions. He advises on matters for private and public clients involved in litigation across a range of sectors and industries.
As counsel, Simon has represented numerous leading Canadian businesses in litigation and arbitration matters. His experience includes prosecuting breach of fiduciary duty and fraud claims against former corporate executives, defending a national company against class action claims involving contracts and consumer protection legislation, defending and prosecuting misrepresentation, oppression and contract claims, and multi-jurisdictional disputes involving fraud, defamation, breach of contract and injunctions.
Simon is a frequent instructor and lecturer on commercial litigation, including as a group leader at the University of British Columbia Trial Advocacy Course, for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia as an instructor of "Winning Trial Advocacy and coordinator of Litigation for Solicitors", and as Lead Instructor for the Advocates Society "Civil Trial Advocacy College".

Simon represents clients in all manner of real estate commercial disputes. He has prosecuted and defended numerous cases involving sale of land, leases, market rent and market value appraisals, and rent distress disputes.
His experience includes complex real estate arbitrations for major British Columbia corporations, high-profile land disputes for a national railway against a major municipality, historical forestry and mineral ownership claims, restrictive covenant and easement disputes for major utilities, numerous lease termination and rent disputes for landlords and tenants, sale of land cases for buyers, sellers and developers, and prosecuting and defending injunctions involving the use of land.
Simon is a frequent lecturer on real estate and commercial leasing issues, including as coordinator of the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia course, Commercial Leasing 2015, and instructor in Real Estate Deals: Making and Breaking Contracts in Challenging Times.
