Martin (Marty) Emmons is a seasoned and senior real estate partner who has established a broad-based real estate practice, focused on acquisitions and dispositions of commercial real estate and the development of large real estate projects. Marty regularly advises clients on the structuring of investments in real estate in Canada by Canadian, U.S. and other non-Canadian investors through joint ventures, co-ownerships, long-term ground leases, land exchanges and other similar structures.

Marty has acted as Canadian counsel for a number of significant U.S. based investors in real estate in Canada, and has assisted them with the appropriate structuring of their investments. He also acts for some of the largest real estate development firms in Canada. Marty has handled many large and complex real estate transactions and developments on behalf of developers, pension funds and pension fund advisors, private real estate developers, public hospitals and municipalities. He has been the lead lawyer on a number of major portfolio transactions involving the acquisition and disposition of office, retail and industrial buildings.
Marty has also been involved in a variety of large industrial, retail and mixed use development projects, including advising clients with respect to the structuring of such projects and completing development and joint venture documentation for such projects.
Marty also has significant expertise in construction law and provides advice and assistance with the drafting of construction contracts, primarily for owners, for major construction and infrastructure projects, as well as contracts with architects, engineers and other consultants. He has extensive experience in acting for public hospitals in Ontario on major construction and redevelopment projects and has been engaged in a number of the most significant hospital redevelopments in Ontario over the past 15 years.
