Jeff Dennis is a lawyer and serial entrepreneur. He is a “trusted advisor” who works with high growth companies providing strategic advice and financing in their quest to get to the next level. He has been involved in start-ups, acquisitions and financings for a variety of businesses in industries as varied as real estate, hospitality, film and television production, insurance, cosmetics, franchising, high technology, alternative energy, investment management, alternative energy, medical software and physician services, online auctions, incentive marketing and employee motivation.
Jeff co-founded the Toronto Chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization, now called the Entrepreneurs Organization (EO). He has served in many leadership capacities at both the local and international level of EO, including Toronto Chapter President and Director, Governance of the EO International Board of Directors. In 1998, Jeff co-chaired the annual EO convention of over 500 entrepreneurs, which was held in Toronto.
Through his association with EO and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, he created a series of "Lessons from the Edge" seminars, which have been the highest rated sessions at the EO conventions each year. At these seminars, entrepreneurs share their worst mistakes in business and the lessons that they learned. Jeff’s book, Lessons from the Edge, was inspired by the success of these seminars.
As a result of the success of Lessons from the Edge, Jeff was asked to become Profit Magazine’s “Entrepreneur in Residence” and as such contributed a regular column for four years. He continues to write a blog on issues of interest to entrepreneurs.
Jeff has become a sought after public speaker by entrepreneurial groups and business schools. He has spoken in many countries around the world, including Thailand, India, Malaysia, Nepal, the U.S. and Canada.
Jeff is a lawyer by training. He earned his undergraduate degree in economics at Brown University and his law degree at the University of Western Ontario. He is a graduate of the “Birthing of Giants” executive education program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of the Directors’ Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto and was awarded his ICD.D certification.
